Catherine Coleman was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She spent her early years in a small town, Glenpool, and graduated
high school from a bigger town, Broken Arrow. Unfortunately, Catherine was not a very good student in those days. After
graduating, she lived and worked for two years in Acapulco and Cancun, Mexico. It was then she discovered the difficulty
and joy in learning language.

Catherine moved to Long Beach, California in 1992. Eventually, she started attending Long Beach City College. As she
struggled to become a good college student, Catherine decided that her career goal would be teaching. Thus, she
transferred to California State University, Long Beach and completed a B.A. in English. Wanting to share her own
experiences in mastering language and college, she studied Linguistics and received a M.A. in Teaching English to Second
Language Learners with an Emphasis in Educational Technology; she graduated with honors in December 2005.

Catherine has been fortunate to teach in a variety of schools, including Diversified Language Institute (a private
adult language school), American Language Institute (a collegiate intensive language program), Techworld (a business
language school), and various colleges (CSULB, SCC, LBCC & OCC). She loves technology and uses it to enhance her
teaching. Catherine's favorite thing to teach is writing and loves helping students discover the power of their own
voices.

With a husband, three cats, many outdoor activities, and teaching, Catherine keeps busy. For fun, she and her husband
Joe like to go bicycling on the beach, sailing and kayaking in the bay, and practicing Tae Kwon Do. She also enjoys watching football,
reading pop fiction, taking photographs, and going to Disneyland. Catherine dreams of traveling around the world in the
future.
